With that in mind, Lincoln Junior and Senior High Schools offer a wide range of music, fine arts, and athletic activities for each student. Ok, I got my letter, now what should my student do?
Your student should attend an informational meeting held in early September to find out more information on completing the NHS membership form. The date, time, and location of the meeting will be posted in the daily bulletin. Please make sure you listen carefully and attend the meeting. If you miss the meeting, please see Mr. Iberg for information. The 2020 meeting will be held on Friday September 11th at 7:45 am in the media center.
How will I know if my student is eligible to be in NHS?
Eligible student’s will receive a letter from the school in June notifying them that they meet the grade requirement (cumulative 3.25 GPA) making them eligible to apply for NHS membership.
How many community service hours does my student need to complete in order to apply for NHS?
Your student needs to complete a minimum of 25 community service hours and submit the service hour sheet with their application. Service hours may be dated back to September 1st of the previous school year.
How should my student keep track of their service hours?
Please print off a service sheet off of the NHS website. All service hours need to be documented on the NHS service hour sheet. Students may contact Mr. Iberg if they have any questions.
What happens if a National Honor Society member violates a MSHSL rule?
Although no member can be automatically dismissed from NHS, violating a MSHSL rule can be grounds for dismissal. A hearing will be held with the member, parent, NHS Adviser, and faculty committee. This is the member’s opportunity to speak about the action. The faculty committee will decide what the consequence is.
You are invited to the 2023 NHS Induction Ceremony
You are cordially invited to attend the National Honor Society induction of new members on Monday, November 11th, at 7 pm in the Lincoln High School auditorium. The night will feature musical entertainment, student remarks on the five cornerstones of NHS (character, honor, leadership, scholarship, and service), and a teacher speaker. The induction will end with new members signing the log book and reciting the oath. After closing remarks, all in attendance are welcome to celebrate with cake and punch.
Parents are invited to take pictures at the conclusion of the event.
National Honor Society Selection Process
Eligibility
· Open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors
· GPA standard – 3.25 (cumulative)
o Eligibility will be determined at the end of previous school year (2nd semester)
· Eligible students will be notified by letter
· All eligible students must submit a written application to be considered for membership
Faculty Feedback
· All faculty will have the opportunity to evaluate eligible students in the areas of character and leadership.
o Faculty will not view the application and will evaluate students based on his/her performance in classroom and/or other school related activities
o The evaluation will be on a 4-point rating scale
Faculty Council
· A five-member faculty council will make the final National Honor Society selection based on the student’s application and faculty feedback.
· The selection of each member into the National Honor Society shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council
· The council will remain anonymous
· The council will be teachers who teach grades 9-12
· The council will be selected by the administration
Communication
· All eligible students who made application for National Honor Society will be notified by mail on the selection or non-selection result.
· Students not selected into National Honor Society will be provided rationale for non-selection from the faculty council.
· The National Honor Society selection process will be disseminated to the community, students, and faculty in a timely fashion.
